A&D Casa Do Arrabalde Vinho Verde 2021
With bright aromas of citruses and cherry blossom, Casa do Arrabalde Vinho Verde is definitely not on the shy side. It is fragrant, it is expressive and it is utterly gorgeous. Captivatingly sweet nose is followed by freshness, structure and a touch of salinity on the palate. Remarkable balance and a lost lasting finish suggest some cellaring potential: the wine will evolve over the next few years.
Casa do Arrabalde Vinho Verde comes from vineyards located in the sub-region of Baião. The vineyards sit at an altitude of 490 metres, in granitic soil and are exposed to shifts in temperature due to the proximity of the Marão foothills. A&D is a family-run estate which has been recently certified organic. The grapes for this wine were manually harvested and selected prior to temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel.

Wine Origins
Portugal is a real treasure trove of unique wines and indigenous grapes. Despite the ever changing trends, the country was reluctant to plant international varieties and managed to preserve its wine identity - which has evolved throughout 4,000 years of winemaking history. Today, Portuguese wines offer great value and a mind-blowing variety of styles, from crisp whites and lush orange wines to fruit-filled reds and sophisticated ports.
This family estate, located in Vinho Verde’s sub region of Baiao, has been making outstanding wines since 1991. Baiao lies next to the border with the Douro region and offers a unique terroir where schist meets granit and where vineyards are planted on terraces at altitudes from 200 to more than 500 metres. Run by Alexandre and Dialina Gomes, hence the name A&D Wines, the estate is certified organic since the 2020 vintage.
Popular in both northwestern Portugal and in the Spanish region of Galicia, Alvarinho is arguably the finest white grape of the whole Iberian peninsula. In Portugal, Alvarinho is the key grape of Vinho Verde appellation, making crisp and well-textured wines. Best examples of Alvarinho reveal aromas of peaches and citruses, along with mineral character and certain salinity on the palate which makes these wines very food-friendly.
