Description

A very impressive, refined white blend from the most renowned Bulgarian boutique producer, Borovitza. This winery is often credited for putting modern Bulgarian terroir-driven wines on the map. Borovitza Cuvee Bella Rada is a complex elegant wine, which reveals gorgeous aromas of spring blossom, orchard fruit, candied lemon peel, followed by seductive notes of honey, pastry and almonds. On the palate, it is rich and round, with an array of fruit and honey flavours.

The blend is predominantly Rkatsiteli, a grape variety native to Georgia, but widely grown across Eastern Europe. For Borovitza Cuvee Bella Rada, the grapes were hand-picked from 55-58 year old vineyards in Danube Plain. This outstanding wine was made with no added sulphites. It spent several months in Bulgarian oak barrels to round up the edges and to add to the complexity.

Caroline Gilby MW:

Ogy and Adriana had found that there were some amazing old plots of vines in this virtually abandoned corner of the country, producing fantastically intense fruit. And because this area is relatively cooler than the rest of the country (especially at night), but with long sunshine hours, ancient soils and good sloping sites, the wines have great potential for elegance, complexity and long life.
