Description

Makashvili Khikhvi Qvevri greets with a gorgeous golden colour and a myriad of aromas. With notes of ripe stone fruits, flowers, honey and nutmeg, the nose reminds of a freshly baked caramel peach pie. This enchanting bouquet is matched by a rich, full-bodied palate with ample freshness.

The wine was made according to the ancient Georgian winemaking traditions. After the manual harvest, grapes were placed into big clay amphorae, qvevri, which are several centuries old. The grape juice was fermented with the skins and the fermentation happened naturally, with no addition of artificial yeast of SO2. The wine was further aged in qvevri. Makashvili Khikhvi Qvevri is a great match to pork, as well as dark poultry dishes and it works wonders when paired with sweet-and-sour Asian food.

Julia Harding, Master of Wine:

“Deep, orangey gold. Inviting aroma of bitter apricot and dried grasses. Intensely tannic, so dry; could only be drunk at the table but it is well – balanced. Deep, chewy and long.”
