Description

This full-bodied orange wine bursts with aromas of ripe peaches, apricots and other stone fruits, along with subtle notes of aromatic herbs and almonds. With well-integrated tannins, ample freshness and delicious flavours on the palate, it has a long fruity finish and leaves you longing for more. Makashvili Kisi Qvevri was made according to the ancient Georgian winemaking traditions. After the manual harvest, grapes were placed into big clay amphorae, qvevri, which are several centuries old. The grape juice was fermented with the skins and the fermentation happened naturally, with no addition of artificial yeast of SO2. The wine was further aged in qvevri.

Makashvili Kisi Qvevri is a great companion to fish curries, tandoori salmon, vegetable korma and other flavourful Indian dishes and South-East Asian dishes. It is equally great with mature cheeses and poultry.

Julia Harding, Master of Wine:

“Mid gold. Fragrant with sour apricot, dried grasses, barley sugar. Very chewy, a little bit sour, intense, concentrated. Powerful rather than elegant. Challenging in its sour/tannic intensity.”
