Description

Makashvili Mtsvane Qvevri greets you with a deep amber colour and aromas of ripe apricots, notes of citruses, green tea, walnuts and forest floor. The wine has fresh acidity, velvety tannins and a long, harmonious aftertaste.

A beautiful example of a Georgian orange wine, it was made according to the country's ancient winemaking traditions. After the manual harvest, grapes were placed into big clay amphorae, qvevri, which are several centuries old. The grape juice was fermented with the skins and the fermentation happened naturally, with no addition of artificial yeast of SO2. The wine was further aged in qvevri to round up the edges. Makashvili Mtsvane Qvevri is a great match for mushroom dishes, as well as flavourful cuisines, such as Moroccan or Lebanese.

Julia Harding, Master of Wine:

“Apricot gold. Smells of dried grasses with a background of reduced apricots. Intensely tannic. Desperately needs food. A bit fat and heavy, even if the tannins add freshness. Extreme style, beware.”
