Makashvili Musaiphy Limited Edition Qvevri 2017
In ancient Georgian "musaiphy" means "conversation". The name of the wine is a tribute to Georgian king Erekle II who ruled in the 18th Century and admired this very blend of qvevri wine which was produced for him exclusively. This name resonates with the engraving on the king's sword: "I am short in conversation with the Enemy". Makashvili Musaiphy Qvevri is indeed a wine of kings. It captivates with aromas of sun-kissed quince, ripe apricots and dried peaches, as well as exquisite notes of figs, almonds, walnuts, aromatic blossom and wild flowers. The palate is complex, with vibrant acidity and a long finish. Released in very limited quantities (less than 700 bottles are produced), this is one of the flagship wines of Makashvili Wine Cellar and has won multiple international awards.
Makashvili Musaiphy Qvevri was crafted according to age-old Georgian winemaking traditions. It was fermented and aged in qvevri, clay amphorae which are centuries old. The fermentation happened spontaneously, with no additions. This full-bodied wine can be paired with both meat and vegetable dishes, and is a great companion to flavourful Moroccan as well as Middle-Eastern cuisines.
