Description

With a dark ruby colour and intense aromas, this is a gorgeous example of Saperavi, Georgia's 'hero grape'. A complex, captivating nose of blackberries, black currants, cornel and sweet spices is followed by a rich palate with ripe tannins and a long finish. Makashvili Saperavi Qvevri was crafted according to age-old Georgian winemaking traditions. It was fermented and aged in qvevri, clay amphorae which are centuries old and have been carefully restored by Makashvili Wine Cellar. The fermentation happened spontaneously, with no additions.

Makashvili Saperavi Qvevri creates marvellous parings with meat dishes, particularly those of Lebanese and Persian cuisines. We recommend pairing this wine with kebabs, lamb stews and pilau.

Julia Harding, Master of Wine:

“Deep crimson with a ruby rim. Rich aroma of sweetly spiced black fruit lifted by a tangy fragrance that has a touch of sandalwood incense. Deep, chewy tannin texture. Generous in fruit and with a great combination of ripe but fresh fruit and full-bodied structure. Likely to age really well. Mouth-wateringly moreish.”
