Description

Saperavi is the most famous Georgian variety, largely responsible for the international fame of the country's winemaking. Saperavi wines are notoriously dark and opaque with a full body and plenty of character. Mildiani Saperavi is a beautiful unoaked, fruit-forward expression of this variety. Generous aromas of ripe berries are followed by seductive notes of chocolate (signature mark of this grape), ripe tannins and a refreshing acidity.

Mildiani Saperavi comes from old vines, grown in Kakheti region of Georgia. The vineyards are planted on rocky basalt soils which provide a good drainage and naturally limit the fertility of the vines. This results in well-structured wines with concentrated aromas. Pair this characterful red with grilled meat, steak or a hearty bean stew.

Mildiani Family Winery

Owned by four brothers, this winery has been the driving force of modern Georgian winemaking since the 1990s. One of the first privately owned wine estates in the country, Mildiani take credit for reviving the qvevri tradition and for bringing international fame to Georgian orange wines. Today this benchmark estate boasts a collection of vineyards across the country and remains family-owned.

Saperavi

Saperavi is one of the most ancient Georgian varieties. It is the flagship of Georgian winemaking, often being referred to as “hero grape”. Saperavi makes some of the best Georgian reds, both dry and sweet. These wines are incredibly rich and powerful, with grippy tannins, lively acidity and extensive range of  flavours. They are notoriously dark and have a tremendous ageing potential.
