Mildiani Saperavi Special Reserve 2011
Saperavi, Georgia’s most famous indigenous red grape, is known for its incredible character, as well as for its highly pigmented juice. It makes characterful wines of dark, opaque colour; in fact, the name “Saperavi” translates as “to dye”. Mildiani Saperavi Special Reserve 2011 is a powerful and muscular wine. It comes from old vines grown in the Kakheti region in south-eastern Georgia. With a gorgeous deep ruby colour, it offers lush aromas of fresh and dry berries, dark chocolate. Exquisite notes of cedar, smoke, leather and game enhance the experience on the nose and on the palate.
This Saperavi was wildly fermented in old French oak barrels and aged in new oak for 12 months. It was further matured in the bottle for 7 years. It is a deep and complex wine with plenty of ripe tannins, ample freshness and a long finish. Mildiani Saperavi Special Reserve is a type of wine you would want to sip through and enjoy for hours, watching it evolve in the glass. At the same time, it will create exquisite pairings with lamb, game, venison and mushroom dishes.

Julia Hardin, Master of Wine
“Deep garnet. Open, leathery black fruit, a touch minty. Intense, concentrated, but still with attractive savoury side. With food this would be great. More power than elegance but still with a long life ahead.”
