Description

If you are after characterful red wines, look no further. This elegant Portuguese red offers great freshness, while retaining a real depth and power. Dense aromas of cherries, cocoa, cinnamon, crème de cassis and licorice are matched by ripe silky tannins and an impeccable balance on the palate. Truly outstanding effort by Nuno Mira do O, one of Portugal's super-star winemakers and winner of Winemaker Of The Year 2022 award.

The grapes for Mira Do O Vidente come from 30-year-old vines grown on a plateau 500 metres above sea level, on the right bank of the Dão river. Nuno Matos is passionate about expressing the terroir by keeping the intervention into winemaking to minimum. For Vidente, manual harvest was followed by natural slow fermentation in steel tanks, with several grape varieties mixed and fermented together. The wine spent further 10 months in old oak barrels developing complex aromas and a luxurious palate.

Jaen (Mencia)

Jaen, known as Mencia in Spain, is a grape variety native to the Iberian Peninsula. Historically, this grape has often been overshadowed by its more famous peers, both Spanish and Portuguese. However, nowadays there is growing interest for Mencia, which with the right vineyard approach can produce textured, fragrant, medium-bodied red wines. The grape aromas include sour cherries, pomegranate, blackberries and black licorice, along with earthy notes of crushed gravel.
