Description

This fruit forward, medium-bodied red opens up with charming notes of black cherries and currants, followed by hints of sweet spices, pepper and paprika. Moschopolis Aiora Red is a real treat for the palate. It is seamless and smooth, with juicy fruit flavours, silky tannins and ample freshness. Indigenous Greek grapes, Mavrotragano and Xinomavro, were blended with Syrah in almost equal proportions.

The grapes for Moschopolis Aiora Red were sourced from organically farmed vineyards. The wine was fermented with the indigenous yeasts. Further on, it was matured in clay amphorae for 6 months to round up the edges. It was then bottled unfined and unfiltered, allowing the fruit aromas to shine through.

Moschopolis

Standing at an impressive 500 metres in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, you could say that the gods have been smiling upon this unique, family-owned vineyard. Established by the Moschopolis Winery in the nearby village of Monopigado in 2016, it is organically farmed, privately managed, and its close collaboration with neighbouring vineyard owners allows for complete quality control when it comes to the fruit that arrives at the winery.

Mavrotragano

Mavrotragano is a rare indigenous Greek variety originating from the island of Santorini. Mavrotragano was historically used for sweet wine blends. It became almost extinct by the 1970s and was later resurrected thanks to a handful of passionate winemakers. Today it is named among the most promising grapes of the Greek islands. Mavrotragano makies rich, opulent, age-worthy reds.
