Rouvalis Tsigelo PDO Patra Dry Mavrodaphne 2021
This stunning amphorae-aged red comes from one of the most renowned Peloponnese producers, Rouvalis winery. The vineyards are planted on the picturesque terraced slopes overlooking the Corinthian gulf. Cooled by the breeze, the grapes ripen slowly, achieving a great concentration of flavours. Rouvalis Tsigelo is captivatingly fragrant, with aromas of flowers, herbs, fresh blueberries and blackberries, followed by exquisite notes of coffee and cocoa. Full-bodied, rich and ripe on the palate, with well-integrated tannins and a perfect balance of flavours, this is a refined example of Mavrodaphne variety.
For decades, this grape variety has been used mainly for sweet wine production. This is an excellent attempt to showcase the dry side of Mavrodaphne. The grapes for Rouvalis Tsigelo were handpicked and vinified in a gravity-fed winery. The wine was aged for 3 months in a combination of French oak barrels and amphorae. Further on, it was bottled unfiltered to preserve the fruit flavours.
