Sigalas Mm Mavrotragano-Mandilaria 2020
Dark volcanic soils of the stunning island of Santorini give birth to some of the best wines of Greece. Sigalas Mm Mavrotragano-Mandilaria is an exquisite expression of this unique terroir. It shows tremendous depth, with layers of aromas gradually opening in the glass. Black currants, blackberries and cherries are followed by leather, spices, cocoa and coffee. The wine has a luxurious palate with silky tannins, delicious flavours and ample freshness. Perfectly enjoyable now, Sigalas Mm Mavrotragano-Mandilaria will evolve and age gracefully in the bottle and can be cellared for a few years.
The blend is predominantly Mavrotragano, an indigenous Santorini grape. It had become almost extinct by the 1970s and was resurrected in the 1990s by a handful of passionate winemakers from Santorini, including Domaine Sigalas. Â

Mark Squires, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 90 points:
Fresh and perfectly balanced. It’s a pleasure to drink and quite delicious, fruity, but the fruit is always lifted on the finish. It is now in a great place to drink. It should hold well for several more years, at least.
Tamlyn Curryn, jancisrobinson.com:
This is a gorgeous, scented red blend of 75% Mandilaria and 25% Mavrotragano from 60-year-old vines, vinified and aged for 18 months in oak barrels. With tannins supple as chamois-leather gloves, the acidity flashes with light and angles, like diamonds cupped in the palm. The fruit is ruby-jewelled. It is dark cherries and tobacco, a smudge of ground coriander and cinnamon adding spice to the sweetness. It has the tang of pomegranates and wild cherries.
