Sigalas Santorini Assyrtiko has gained a cult following across the world as one of the most glorious expressions of this indigenous grape. It is a refined wine which shows incredible depth and complexity, vintage to vintage. The 2021 release is a gorgeously pure manifestation of the unique volcanic terroir of Santorini. Fresh and vivid, the wine explodes with  aromas of ripe lemons, green apples, pears and mineral notes.  On the palate, it shows an excellent structure and an acidity which lifts up the flavours, leaving a long fresh aftertaste.

The grapes were sourced from vines over 70 years in age, all non-grafted. Sigalas Santorini Assyrtiko has proven its capability to age gracefully for at least a decade. The 2021 vintage has just entered its drinking window and, as such, it is a great wine for cellaring.

Assyrtiko

Assyrtiko is the flagship white grape of Greece. This indigenous variety originates from Santorini, where it grows on dark volcanic soils in extreme weather conditions. Some very old vines of Assyrtiko are found on Santorini. Often, these are ungrafted, growing on their own rootstock. Assyrtiko makes complex white wines with crisp minerality, tremendous freshness and a good ageing potential.
