Description

Voskevaz Karasi collection is an exquisite range of wines, made in traditional Armenian clay amphorae, karases. This award-winning red comes from incredibly old vines - some over 120 years old. The vineyards are planted at extreme altitudes of 1,600-1,800 metres above sea level. Fermented in karases and aged in Armenian oak barrels, Voskevaz Karasi Collection Areni Noir 2015 is all elegance and finesse. Beautiful ruby red colour, pronounced aromas of cherries and forest fruits along with notes of black pepper, cloves, nutmeg and eucalyptus, create a remarkable experience. These are enhanced by subtle hints of forest floor. Masterfully balanced, with fresh acidity, extremely soft tannins and a real zip, this is a wine made to impress.

Areni Noir is an ancient indigenous Armenian grape variety, often compared to Pinot Noir for its elegance, its freshness and its complex aromatics. Voskevaz Karasi Collection Areni Noir 2015 is a great companion to game, lamb and truffles. This outstanding, refined wine can also be enjoyed on its own. Older vintages of Voskevaz Karasi range are rare and extremely thought after by those in the know.

Jancis Robinson

“Very pale ruby. Gentle, red-fruit aromas with some spice and good acid balance and a little graininess on the end. No aggressive tannin and relatively light bodied. Great balance of fruit and tang with an emphatic, neat, savoury finish. Some red-pimento sensation. Well done! Very 21st-century style.”

Julia Harding, Master of Wine

“Brick red with ruby at the core. Seductive fruit sweetness but still with the Areni pepperiness. Super-fine dry tannin texture. Light-bodied and refined in every way. Still juicy even though there is a little more tertiary character – but so youthful. Persistent and fragrant.”
