Voskevaz Karasi Collection Areni Noir Vieille Vignes 2016
Karasi collection by Voskevaz winery is an exquisite range of wines, made in traditional Armenian clay amphorae, karases. Voskevaz Karasi Collection Areni Noir 2016 is an outstanding red which comes from incredibly old vines - some over 120 years old. In addition, the vineyards are planted at extreme altitudes of 1,600-1,800 metres above sea level. This adds to the character of the wine and enhances its structure.
Fermented in karases and aged in Armenian oak barrels, Voskevaz Karasi Collection Areni Noir 2016 is all elegance and finesse. Beautiful ruby red colour, pronounced aromas of cherry and forest fruit along with black pepper, cloves, nutmeg and eucalyptus, create a truly remarkable experience. Masterfully balanced, with fresh acidity, extremely soft tannins and a real zip, this is a wine made to impress. Voskevaz is Armenia’s oldest and most prominent winery. It was one of the first producers to revive the Armenian tradition of winemaking in karases. Older vintages of their Karasi range are rare and extremely thought after by those in the know.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate:
“This starts off great. It shows freshness and good structure, with moderate tannins for support, plus fine fruit with a dried raspberry edge to it. The mid-palate finesse is very good. It seems somewhat Burgundian.”
Julia Harding, Master of Wine
“Light ruby with bricky rim. Inviting sweet-cherry and wild-strawberry aroma with the merest hint of tertiary aromas of bottle age – so vibrant and youthful for a 2016. Like the 2018, light-bodied and so youthful. Elegant restraint. Seems almost timeless.”
