Description

Voskevaz is Armenia’s oldest and most prominent winery. It was one of the first producers to revive the ancient Armenian tradition of winemaking in karases - large clay amphorae. Their Karasi collection is an exquisite range of wines, made following this ancient method. Voskevaz Karasi Collection Haghtanak 2019 is a deep, full-bodied red which was fermented in karases and aged in new Armenian oak barrels. Pronounced aromas of black plum, blueberries, spices, hints of toast and coffee are followed by elegant smokiness. Big, powerful and bold, it is a kind of wine that makes a statement. The tannins are grippy, yet well integrated and the balance is impeccable.

The grapes for Voskevaz Karasi Collection Haghtanak 2019 were sourced from very old vines, the youngest ones being 60 years old. Vineyards are located in the Ararat region, at altitudes up to 1,250 metres above sea level. Pair this exquisite red wine with a fine steak or mature hard cheeses.

Voskevaz Winery

The oldest operating winery in Armenia, Voskevaz will soon be celebrating 100 years since its foundation. In Armenian, “Voskevaz” means "golden bunch". Once upon a time, it was Soviet Armenia’s most prestigious winery. Nowadays, Voskevaz is family-owned, producing exquisite wines of indigenous varieties. Voskevaz were among the first wineries to revive the Armenian tradition of karases, large clay amphorae.

Hakhtanak

Hakhtanak is one of the most promising Armenian red grape varieties. Hakhtanak, which translates as “victory”,  is primarily grown in the Ararat region in west-central Armenia. It makes rich full-bodied wines which are often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines show ripe tannins, robust structure and rich flavours of blackburry, blackcurrant and plum.
