Voskevaz Karasi Collection Hakhtanak Vieille Vignes 2018
Voskevaz is Armenia’s oldest and most prominent winery. It was one of the first producers to revive the ancient Armenian tradition of winemaking in karases - large clay amphorae. Their Karasi collection is an exquisite range of wines, made following this ancient method. Voskevaz Karasi Collection Hakhtanak 2018 is a deep, full-bodied red which was fermented in karases and aged in new Armenian oak barrels. Pronounced aromas of black plum, blueberries, spices, hints of toast and coffee are followed by elegant smokiness. Big, powerful and bold, it is a kind of wine that makes a statement. The tannins are grippy, yet well integrated and the balance is impeccable.
The grapes for Voskevaz Karasi Collection Hakhtanak 2018 were sourced from very old vines, the youngest ones being 60 years old. Vineyards are located in the Ararat region, at altitudes up to 1,250 metres above sea level. Pair this exquisite red wine with a fine steak or mature hard cheeses.

Julia Harding, Master of Wine
“Deep garnet with some brick at the rim. More developed bottle-age aromas than in the 2018 Karasi Collection Areni Noir 2018. Spicy, dark-fruited. Chewy, smooth, deep tannins, showing its relationship with Saperavi in the tannins. Chewy, slightly earthy and satisfying.”
Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com
“Massively chewy and dense and smoky. Like a barbecue in a glass. Bacon. This is a roaring dragon of a wine: smoke and meat and fire. Will age tame it? I feel like I need to be wearing animal skins and brandishing a club in order to drink this.”
