Description

Malagousia is an ancient Greek grape which makes strikingly aromatic, perfumy white wines. This variety has been historically used mainly for sweet wines, however dry Malagousia is a real treat for the senses. Vourvoukeli Malagousia proves this point. It bursts with aromas of tropical fruits, nectarines and apricots, grapefruits, as well as gorgeous notes of blossom. Full-bodied, concentrated and at the same time fresh and vivid, this is a marvellous expression of Malagousia.

Vourvoukeli Malagousia is a great aperitif. It is perfect with a cheese board, but pairing it with flavourful food, such as Korean, Chinese, Indian or Thai will take the whole food and wine experience to a new level.

Vourvoukeli

Vourvoukeli Winery was founded by Nikos and Flora Vourvoukeli in 1999, in the area of Avdira, in northern Greece. Wine has been made in Avdira since ancient times. In the Byzantine era, Avdira, along with the region of Maronia, constituted one of the vineyards of Byzantium and it was here that the celebrated Pamiti wine was produced. From the start, Nikos’ vision was to restore the vineyard of Avdira to its former glory.

Malagousia

One of the most acclaimed Greek grapes, Malagousia makes world class aromatic white wines. This indigenous white grape is largely associated with the country’s wine renaissance. Malagousia is an ancient variety, supposedly originating from Central Greece. By the 1970s Malagousia plantings became almost extinct. The grape was revived thanks to the work of university professors and some of the top growers.
